The Society for the Study of Ethics and Animals (SSEA) was founded in 1979 by Harlan B. Miller (Virginia Tech). As Miller wrote in 1980: "The Society for the Study of Ethics and Animals has been established to provide for the exchange of information and provide arenas for discussion and debate between those interested in ethical questions concerning human treatment of nonhuman animals. The Society will not take sides, and is committed only to open discussion."
We are pleased to host Martha Nussbaum (University of Chicago), who will deliver a public online talk titled "Where the Orcas Swim: Whales, Capabilities, Hope". Jeff Sebo (NYU) and Tom White (In Defense of Dolphins) will comment. The talk is coordinated by the SSEA as a special group session at the Pacific Division meeting of the American Philosophical Association. The date/time is not finalized, but it will be either April 10Â or 11, 2026. Please stay tuned for more details!
